Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro as the new head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The appointment came after the NFF executive meeting held on Wednesday via video conferencing.
The Portuguese will take over from current interim boss Augustine Eguaveon after the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) next month.
But many things around Jose happened that need to be unfolded.
Work Experience
Jose Peseiro’s work experience has been amazing having worked with 18 different football teams as head coach with one other club as an assistant.
He was the assistant coach to José Antonio Camacho in 2004 at Real Madrid as they helped the team finish second in La Liga.
He has managed teams like Sporting CP, FC Porto, Braga, Al Ahly of Egypt as well as his last job in Venezuela.
Playing Career
Jose Peseiro has spent his 15-year career with a number of clubs basically in his native Portugal.
He has never played a club outside his country of birth starting with Cartaxo in 1979 and ending with União Santarém in 1994.
Place And Date of Birth
José Vítor dos Santos Peseiro was born on April 4, 1960 to Silveria Peseiro and Joaö Peseiro.
He was born in Coruche, a municipality in Santarém District in Portugal.
Wife and Children
José Peseiro is married to Fátima Peseiro upon whom they have produced two children, Susana Peseiro and Vítor Hugo Peseiro.
Most Preferred Formation
The Portuguese is an admirer of playing with three recognised centre-backs with two wing-backs in what is called a 5-4-1 formation.
He prefers a lone striker as well as having plenty of bodies in the midfield.
African Experience
The 61-year old has work experience in African soil having coach Al Hilal of Sudan in the 2006/2007 season as well as Al Ahly of Egypt in the 2015/2016 football season.
He will be acquainted with the demands of Africans as far as football is concerned.
However, Mr. Augustine Eguavoen, named the interim Head Coach, will lead the Super Eagles to the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon with Mr. Peseiro only playing the role of Observer.
It was unanimously agreed that the AFCON is a good avenue for Mr. Peseiro to launch a working relationship with Mr. Eguavoen, who will revert to his role as Technical Director.
