The 2022 Headies Awards which celebrated the best amongst the rest in the Nigerian music industry, took place on Sunday, September 4th in Atlanta, USA.
The Headies awards was created back in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry.
Akwa Ibom’s own artist Daniel Benson, better known as BNXN or Buju was on the list alongside popular rap singer Burna Boy. The two led the list of Nigerian awardees at the 2022 Headies awards night.
Buju won the “Headies Next Rated Award” and this has earned him praises from fans all over Nigeria and beyond.
The award ceremony which took place in Atalanta, Georgia had 57 Nigerians competeing for several different awards. This number came about following the disqualification of Portable due to his involvement in a criminal investigation.
Highlights of the Headies Awards
Wizkid took home the “Album of the year” award for his album, “Made in Lagos.” He also got the Song of the year award for his song “essence” which featured Tems.Tems also won the Best Female Artist & Best R&B Album.
Burna Boy was named African Artist of the year and best Male Artist for his new album ‘Love, Damini’.
Wizkid, Tems and Burna Boy were the biggest winners at the 15th edition of the annual Headies Awards.
“Essence” ft. Tems & Justin Bieber also won for best R&B single as Tems also won for best R&B album for ‘If Orange Was a Place’.
FireBoyDML won best Afrobeats single for “Peru” featuring Ed Sheeran, and best music video for “Champion” featuring D Smoke.
Chris Brown won the international artiste of the year for his outstanding achievements and impact on Afrobeats.
The Headies celebrated the best in Afrobeats, African music and culture.
