The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Paul Emeziem, has been impeached by lawmakers.
According to Punch Newspaper, he was impeached by 19 members on Monday during a plenary session of the State House of Assembly in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
A letter signed by 19 parliamentarians out of a total of 27 lawmakers was read aloud on the floor of the house.
The Speaker was impeached, according to the legislators, for serious misbehavior, forgery, abuse of power, and high-handedness.
Kennedy Ibe, a member from the Obowo constituency, has been elected as the new Speaker of the House.
In the same way, Legislators impeached then-Speaker Chiji Collins in November.
Collins was removed from office by 19 of the House’s 27 members.
He was impeached on charges of financial impropriety, high-handedness, and gross misconduct, among other things.
Paul Emeziem, a member from Onuimo Local Government Area, was instantly elected as the House’s new Speaker.
