The eight children’s bodies were discovered in a Honda Sport Utility Vehicle parked on Adelayo Street in the Jah-Michael neighbourhood of the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.
The children were believed to be playing inside the SUV when they accidentally locked themselves inside after unsuccessful attempts to unlock the door.
One of the suspects, according to the police chief, is the grandmother of a three-year-old child who died in the tragic incident.
The arrest came just 24 hours after the State Police Command announced that the deaths of the eight youngsters are being investigated.
Adekunle Ajisebutu, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, had previously told journalists how the victims were discovered locked in the vehicle.
According to multiple sources, the car had a child lock mechanism that could only be unlocked from the outside.
The youngsters, most of whom were between the ages of four and six, were reportedly discovered dead while a parent was seeking for her child.
