An Akwa Ibom-based citizen who described herself as a ‘hardworking’ woman has raised concern over the treatment she received from Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED).
Soby Enim Utiaruk as she is known on her social media platform has taken time to express her total displeasure with the regulation of electricity in her area.
She started her complaints by calling against injustice before narrating her pains.
“I detest injustice! Why? God hates it too. That’s enough reason. With injustice comes greed, dishonesty, cheating, defrauding, and all sorts of vices.
“So this is an open appeal to PHED, the electricity people who are in charge of Uyo,” she said on her social media page.
Soby took time to describe her home accessories which she believed should not bring the kind of cost she’s having in her apartment where she lives at Ewet housing.
“We live in a rented apartment at Ewet Housing Estate, D-line, near Concrete Hotel, Uyo.”
“My apartment is a 4-bedroom bungalow, a sitting room, a dining area, kitchen and store.
“I have no refrigerator, just a small thermocool deep freezer. I don’t iron every day. I have energy-saving bulbs, two TVs and decoder. I have no working AC, (got bad and I’ve refused to fix it. So it’s not functional).” she explained.
She presented her billing records, calling on other citizens to help her calculate if that is how she should be charged.
“In October 2020, we were slammed a bill of N55,009.18, We paid part, in December 2020, the bill became N195,143.37. (Here we called their attention and no one gave us an answer). We still paid part.”
“In January 2021, The bill became N222,523.88. At this point, I gave up trying to find an answer and decided to just pay what our so-called estimated bill (which was less than ten thousand naira) is.”
“God helped us and we were given prepaid meter by mid-2021, at this point, we felt it was better, at least we can tell what we’re consuming each month.”
“It was going well until November 2021, we bought unit from PH–DD, as usual, only for us not to be given, Reason? They said there’s an outstanding debt on the former meter, I threatened to make trouble, then they released the unit, but since then, they have made sure we do not get the full units we pay for.”
“Before, when I bought light unit for 10k (or even less) it took us a month plus, now here’s the injustice, since mid- December 2021, I’ve bought unit of over 20k, in less than a month, I can’t have light, we’re given less than 12 units for 5k.”
“I got back from work yesterday towards 3pm, I checked the unit left, it was about 10, before 4am this morning, it was exhausted, yet my freezer was off (we sometimes switch it off especially when everything is well frozen, to conserve units).” She wrote on her social media page.
Mrs. Soby has called on an immediate response from the PHED on a positive note as she will like to take the case more than just putting it up on social media.
She concluded by saying, “There’s no doubt there are unscrupulous persons in your company. It’s time to begin to make things right if you still want to stay in business.
“Heaven will back me up in this, I guarantee you! You won’t see it coming. I work hard for my money and so I must determine how I spend it. Looking for someone to defraud, check elsewhere cos I’m taking this no more!!!”
