Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto, said on Monday that he will run for President in 2023 as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
After a stakeholders’ meeting in Sokoto, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives made the news.
Tambuwal added that his decision was based on calls from the PDP’s state chapter, which agreed to start a nationwide consultation to help him achieve his goal.
“I have listened to our party leaders, women and youths on the call that I should initiate and begin the process of consultations with a view of running and contesting for the President of Nigeria under the banner of our great party,” he said.
Tambuwal stated that he would start discussions across the country before announcing his decision by the end of February.
The state’s PDP has already endorsed the governor as the country’s next President.
The governor emphasized that present political efforts must be guided by a real desire to produce a President who will serve Nigeria and Nigerians.
