The end of major European leagues is close and many Nigerian footballers are taking their respective leagues by storm, with magnificent number of goals.
Though the number of out strikers might be limited from the Nigerian sphere, the ones available are plying their trade with utmost significance and intent.
Of all the super Eagles stars playing in Europe, just one player has been able to score 20+ league goals so far.
Paul Onuacho (Genk) – 20 Goals:
Paul Onuacho has been prolific in front of goals for his Belgian Super League side, Genk.
The forward, who was surprisingly omitted from Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying squad against Ghana, is the highest goal scorer in his team and also leads in the highest goal scorers chart for Nigerian footballers in Europe, having scored 20 league goals.
He came off the bench to secure a point for his side in their 2-2 draw against Charleroi.
He has scored in all the competitions he has participated in this season.
Umar Sadiq ( Almeria) -18 Goals:
Sadiq’s inclusion in this list might be questionable owing to the fact that he is playing in a second division of Spanish football, but the 25-year old’s goal contributions to his side cannot be underestimated.
He has scored 18 goals in the Spanish Segunda division for his side this season, including right assists.
Victor Osimhen (Napoli) -13 Goals:
Napoli’s 74 Million Euros star, Victor Osimhen, emerges third on the list today, having scored 13 Serie A goals this season.
Osimhen joined Napoli from Ligue 1 side, Lille. Despite missing more than a month of action due to the head injury he suffered, he has been able to find the back of the net in that number of occasions.
The 23-year old has been ever-present for his side and contributed more to the Super Eagles, though they failed to secure qualification to the World Cup against Ghana.
Taiwo Awoniyi (Union Berlin) – 13 Goals:
Former Liverpool man, Taiwo Awoniyi, has been breaking records for his German Bundesliga club, Union Berlin.
The 24-year old has been prolific for Berlin since joining the club and has scored 13 league goals in the German top flight division.
He is 6th on the Bundesliga highest goal scorers ranking, behind Lewandowski, Schick, Haaland, Modeste, Nkunku, Gnabry, and Diaby.
Joe Aribo of Rangers is the next Super Eagles player on this ranking, with eight goals; followed by Moses Simon of Nice, with six goals but with eight assists in 29 games.
Samuel Chukwueze has scored just three league goals this season. He puts on a sterling performance in the Champions League as he helped his side to the semi finals of the UEFA Champions league before their elimination by Liverpool.
