The Nigeria National U20 male team, the Flying Eagles, were held to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday by Burkina Faso, in the second leg of their West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B tournament. This took place in Niger Republic.
Ibrahim Muhammad gave Nigeria the lead in the 24th minute in a bizarre fashion, but the Les Etalons drew level.
Ibrahim Yahaya restored Nigeria’s lead in the second half, after converting from the spot, but they were denied the second time as Burkina fought their way back into game with yet another heartbreaking equalizer.
The Flying Eagles have now gathered four points from two games. This does not guarantee them top spot in the group but have qualified them into the semifinals of the zonal tournament.
Nigeria defeated Ghana in their opening group game and needed a draw for a place in the semis. They have secured this and will hopefully make it to the main tournament should they qualify to the final in the zone.
