Vincent Enyeama, former Nigeria Super Eagles international star, has offered to represent his home town club Akwa United for free despite ending his active career in football years ago.
Enyeama made this known on a Mid-morning Sports Show hosted by Comfort 95.1 Fm in Akwa Ibom state.
The former Ibom Stars goalkeeper who last played for Lille Football Club of France returned home and quit playing active football, according to him.
”I have stopped playing football (actively) but I am still training. I am still very fit to play. I am so tempted to go back to playing because it is so boring staying at home .” Enyeama said.
He insisted on not playing anymore for the National Team due to the availability of better hands. However, his urge to return to football prompted his recent decision.
“I am not looking at playing for the National team because they are better Keepers than me at the moment. Even if it means playing for a local team (in France) for free.
” If I am in Nigeria and Akwa United FC needs a goalkeeper – I am not talking about playing for money- If Akwa United FC needs a goalkeeper for let’s say 4-5 months, I will play for free. ” The former Lille Shot-Stopper said.
The 40-year-old described training at home alone as boring, “it is difficult to be training alone at home when you know you can still be out there doing the thing, so I can play for free, it’s nothing.” he added.
“It is better to be playing than to stay at home. If his decision is to play in the Serie D, I support him even though I would have him play competitive football back home since he has chosen the Serie D, I support him .” Enyeama opined.
