The Government of Abia State has declared Thursday, May 5th, a public holiday. This is to help citizens take part in voters registration.
The one-day holiday is to enable workers from different parts of the state participate, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) embarks on the registration.
A statement from the Abia State Government reads, “To this end, all markets, schools, government and other public offices are to be closed to ensure full participation.”
Registration for the voters card have met some obstacles on the way and was suspended during the 2019 registration, due to fault in machines. The Government wants to help it’s citizens as they embark on it again.
The 2023 election is at the corner and many would have been denied the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. This, the State Government aims to defeat, during the polls.
