The Special Adviser to the President on media and publicity, Mr Femi Adesina has gone against the idea of linking President Muhammadu Buhari with the loss against Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 tie.
Nigeria was eliminated by the Tunisians thanks to a 1-0 victory and Nigerians directed their blames on Buhari after he called the team a few hours before the match.
The number one citizen of the country called the Nigeria National team on a video call to wish the team good luck but it turn out to produce a negative result.
Adesina has come out to refute such agitation against his boss, calling it ‘silly’.
“I have read many silly, idiotic, and imbecilic comments, trying to link the loss to the video conference the President had with the players on Sunday morning. Witless. Thoughtless. And incidentally, if the Super Eagles had gone into the match without encouragement from their President, the same people would have come out to condemn the leader of the country for being taciturn and insensitive. Head or tail, you never win with some Nigerians.
“There are countries, and football teams, who have established a tradition for being outstanding in soccer. But such teams and countries have lost scandalously before, underscoring the truth that losing is part of the game.” Adesina said via his article ‘losing is part of the game’.
