Akwa United goalkeeper, Jean Efala has become the first player from the 2021 Nigeria professional football league Champions to make it to this stage of the African championship.
Efala who mounted the post a good number of times for Akwa United as they went on to win their maiden league title was selected among the squad to represent the host country.
Cameroon has been in fine form since the start of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations as host.
From winning their group to defeating Comoros in the round of 16 and going on to eliminate the Gambia in the quarter-finals as they prepare to take on Egypt in the semi-finals.
The host has shown both character and resilience having turned their team into a champion-elect.
Meanwhile, Efala is yet to make an appearance in the tournament as his country’s goal is mounted by a more experienced Andre Onana who recently joined Inter Milan from Ajax.
But Efala will be crowned champion of Africa should Cameroon win the trophy come Sunday.
