Akwa United title-winning captain Oto-Obong Effiong was absent when the state Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel hosted the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League Champions at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.
The event which took place on Thursday had several Akwa United players (including the new players) in attendance but the immediate-past captain was absent.
The former captain was one of a number of players that were dropped by the team at the end of the last season, ending the stay of the longest-serving player of the Promise Keepers on a bad note.
It is understood that the defender’s relationship with the club whom he served almost all the years of his football career is not a good one.
Both Oto-Obong Effiong and Akwa United had a fallout during their CAF Champions League match at RD Beluizdad.
The team through their senior players were asking about their estacode.
But both the understanding of the players and management went, either way, causing the suspension of Vice-Captain Ubong Friday and Godspower Tower who never returned after the suspension.
The relationship between the club and their captain remained soured and that caused him to be dropped from the team.
This may be the reason for his absence as he was not available and his mobile line was switched off as well as making Ubong Friday and Akarandot Orok present the trophy to the Governor.
