Former World number one Andy Murray returned to the Australian Open with a hard-earned victory over Georgia’s Nokoloz Basilashvili.
Murray emerged the winner progressing to the second round with a hard-fought victory 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 over the 29-year old.
The Great Britain star started the match with an emphatic 6-1 victory in their first set to announce his return but fell to Basilashvili in the second set with a 3-6 loss.
Murray again got himself in a pole position for victory, winning his second set of the match, leaving him with a set to go through to the second round.
Unluckily, Basilashvili bounced back again, this time in a tiebreak, winning 6-7(5-7).
The 34-year old Murray then remembered the fans the quality he is made of as he produced another spectacular set, winning 6-4.
He is now into the second round after defeating Basilashvili to mark his return to Melbourne since bowing out in 2019 with injury.
