Big Brother Naija was formerly known as Big Brother Nigeria. It is a Nigerian reality show based on the Big Brother television franchise. In the show, contestants live in an isolated house and compete for a large cash prize and other material prizes at the end of the show. The goal is to impress the viewers as they determine who will be evicted and who will stay on.
The television series is a replica of Big Brother Africa and has other replicas in various African countries like South Africa, Zimbabwe etc. The premiere of the show first aired on M-Net and DStv Channel 37 in March 2006. It went offline for 11 years and returned again in 2017 with Ebuka, a contestant in the first series as its host.
In this article, we will outline the winners of the television series from its inception to date.
1. Katung Aduwak:
Katung was the first ever winner of the Big Brother Nigeria television series, however, in his time there was no theme but it was held in Nigeria.
Katung Aduwak was born March 21, 1980 and he hails from Zonkwa, Kaduna State, Nigeria. He is a scriptwriter, producer and director as well as a graduate of Political Science.
He was once a media panellist at the Harvard Africa Business School Forum and served for many years as Senior Channel Manager at MTV Base, Senior Creative Director at VIACOM International and Executive Director at Chocolate City.
He is currently the CEO of One O Eight Media and an African Partner for Campfire Media. He is into filmmaking and production and is currently working on music videos and TV series. He is one of the directors of some of the series and TV shows on Africa Magic.
2. Efe Ejeba:
Micheal ‘Efe’ Ejeba popularly known as Efe, is a Nigerian singer, media personality, songwriter, and rapper. He won the second edition of the Big Brother Naija show that was held in South Africa in 2017, with the theme ‘See Gobe’ exactly 11 years after the first show premiered.
Michael Efe Ejeba born February 25, 1993, is a native of Delta State But was born and brought up in Jos, Plateau State. He attained his primary and secondary education in Jos. He is a graduate of the University of Jos, Plateau.
In 2017, he was appointed as an Ambassador of entertainment and creative industry role in plateau and Youth Ambassador by the Nigeria Ministry of Youth and sport. In 2018 he became African Ambassador for Indian Varsity.
3. Miracle Igbokwe:
Born February 17, 1995, Miracle is a Nigerian pilot and model from Imo State. He graduated from an aviation school in the United States on 26 June 2019. He won season 3 of the Big Brother Naija reality TV show with the theme ‘Double Wahala’ which was held in South Africa.
On 30 April 2018, He was appointed by the Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha as the ambassador of education.
4. Mercy Eke:
Mercy Eke is a Nigerian media personality, actress, video vixen and entrepreneur. She was born on 29 September 1993. She won season 4 of Big Brother Naija in October 2019 with the theme ‘Pepper Dem’ which was held in Nigeria, thus becoming the first woman to win the reality show.
On March 14, 2020, Eke received the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Dressed Female.
Eke is from Imo State, Nigeria. She attended Egbu Girls Secondary School in Owerri and graduated from Imo State University in 2014.
Eke appeared as a vixen in the music video for Davido and Ichaba’s single “Baby Mama”. She also appeared in the music video for Airboy’s song “Nawo Nawo”. Eke auditioned for Big Brother Naija four times before becoming a contestant.
5. Olamilekan ‘Laycon’ Agbeleshe:
Olamilekan Massoud Al-Khalifah Agbeleshebioba born 8 November 1993, known professionally as Laycon, is a Nigerian media personality, rapper, singer and songwriter. He is the winner of the Big Brother Naija season 5 ‘Lockdown’ series and is currently the youth ambassador of Ogun State, Nigeria since 6 October 2020, He also won the Artist Of The Year at the 2020 Naija Traffic Awards.
Laycon was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He is a native of Baluwen, Odeda, Ogun State. He attended Lagos state model college meiran, lagos Nigeria from 2003-2009. In 2012, he got admitted to study philosophy at the University of Lagos and graduated in 2016 with a second-class upper degree.
He is the first housemate to be in the BBNaija house yet garner millions of followers on Instagram and a huge fan base on Twitter.
6. Hazel ‘Whitemoney’ Oyeze Onou:
Hazel Oyeze Onou born 6 July 1992, popularly known as Whitemoney is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and reality TV star. He is the winner of Big Brother Naija season 6 ‘Shine Ya Eyes’ edition.
Whitemoney is an Igbo man from Enugu State, Nigeria, but he grew up in Kaduna State. Growing up, Whitemoney didn’t go further than NECO level in his academic pursuit.
