The Delta State Government has closed down a primary school in Asaba after the death of a 19-month-old pupil, Obina Udeze.
According to Channels Television, the victim died from injuries sustained by a teacher, Emeka Nwogbo, who reportedly flogged him on Monday last week.
The little boy had reportedly fallen ill after the beating and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba. His health worsened until he died on Saturday morning.
The Delta State Commissioner for Basic Education, Chika Ossai, on Sunday said that the school was not approved by the state government.
He went on to explain that the government’s move to close down the school is due to the fact that the proprietor did not have an operational licence.
The culprit, Emeka Nwogbo, is reportedly police custody as investigations have commenced as announced by the spokesman of Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe.
