Dozens have been killed and others injured in the Shiite Emam Bargha Ptima mosque explosion in Kandahar, Afghanistan, on Friday.
According to The Washington Post, Abdul Ghafar Mohammadi, the Kandahar police commander, said the death toll was over 50 with at least 100 wounded, but says he couldn’t be more specific because the toll would rise as health workers recovered more bodies in the aftermath of the blasts.
The Taliban stated that they will investigate the incident, and no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet. It’s also unclear how many people were involved in the incident.
The attack came just a week after a suicide bomber hit another mosque in Afghanistan, this one crowded with Shiite worshippers. ISIS-K claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place during Friday noon prayer at a mosque in Kunduz, Afghanistan.
Over 40 people were killed and many more were injured in the attack.
