Five people have been reported dead in Maiduguri as a result of bomb explosions believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram rebels ahead of the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari.
A source in Maiduguri’s Ajilari intersection, simply identified as Maina Mohammed, told our correspondent that a bomb burst extremely close to his house, killing a woman and injuring two little boys.
“It dropped in my area. I am there right now. It killed an 18-year-old girl and injured two young boys,” he said.
A bomb exploded at a mosque in Umaru Shehu Hospital, but no one was injured, according to another source, Umar Tijani, while another explosion occurred at 1,000 Housing and 707 Housing Estates in Maiduguri.
The explosions occurred near the Maiduguri airport and the Nigerian Air Force Base, where President Muhammadu Buhari landed ahead of a project inauguration visit to the capital city.
