The Nigeria National U-17 Women team, tagged the Flamingoes, took full control over their World Cup qualifying tie against their Egyptian counterpart on Sunday, following a first leg victory at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
The Nigerian girls made a positive step in qualifying to the U-17 Women World Cup in India after winning their first leg in an emphatic fashion in Abuja.
The team lead scorer, Opeyemi Akamihe, opened the scoring in the 28th minute to gift her side a deserved lead.
Omowunmi Bello added the second goal for Nigeria as they went into the half time break with a 2-0 cushion.
Early in the 45th second, defender Miracle Usani produced a spectacular goal after hitting past the goalkeeper from outside the box to make it 3-0 for the host.
Omowunmi Bello again showed immense composure to lift the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper, El Taher, after she had been brilliantly played-in by the excellent Taiwo Afolabi on a counter-attack for Nigeria’s fourth goal.
The second leg will be played on April 30th in Cairo and the winning team will tackle the winner between Ethiopia and South Africa for a place in this year’s FIFA U17 Women World Cup.
Ethiopia has set the tone in the first leg after a 3-0 away win against South Africa and the second leg will be the decider as the World Cup approaches.
