The Interim President of the Republic of Guinea, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, has forgiven his country’s National Team after their elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations 2021 delayed edition in Cameroon.
Guinea lost to The Gambia on Monday thanks to a 1-0 victory after forward Barrow gave his side the much-needed goal.
Col Doumbouya as reported by Sadick Adams has also asked the team to refund the money given to them to take part in the Quarterfinal, semi-final and final of the event.
Mamady Doumbouya who is a Guinean military officer serving as the interim president of Guinea since 1 October 2021 after leading a coup d’état on 5 September 2021 that overthrew the previous president, Alpha Condé previously ordered the team to win their knockout game by all means.
But has had a change of heart after telling the team his order was just to motivate the team to victory.
“He said his previous order was just to encourage them. He knows the team needs time to rebuild,” reports Adams.
“Only thing is that he wants the money that was given to the team for the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final games are returned to the state coffers.” The reporter added.
