Nigerians have reacted to Ademola Lookman’s nationality switch from England to Nigeria after news breezed into the social media space.
World football governing body FIFA approved the Leicester City forward’s switch on Thursday.
In January 2021, the Nigeria Football Federation had announced that Lookman was going to switch allegiance to the West African country despite his prior refusal to accept the NFF’s plea thrice.
Lookman was born in Wandsworth in London and represented England at Under-19, Under-20, and Under-21 levels. He was hoping to have a place in England’s Three Lions squad ahead of the world cup when he mentioned that he was still interested in playing for England in April.
“I’ve not changed my mind on wanting to represent England” Lookman had said in April.
Several Nigerian football followers have welcomed the news of Lookman’s switch with delight and are already spotting out players the 24-year-old will displace from the Super Eagles’ setup.
“At last Bye bye to that Henry Onyekuru, that guy wey dey do hin leg like pepeye own,” Oluwatobi Israel tweeted in response to the news.
“Chukwueze can rest well on bench,” Iconoclast tweeted.
He should take Iwobi place,” Daddy Flourish wrote.
However, a certain female Twitter user felt the former England U23 striker was insane alongside the NFF.
“He is mad and NFF will be madder if they call him up,” Jecinta wrote.
