Joy has been the order of the day in the past days, especially in Ikono Local Government area of Akwa Ibom state.
Many eye-witnesses have proclaimed the celebration going on in the area since news broke out on the arrest of a serial killer, popularly known as Malachi.
The Nigeria Police Force reported on Wednesday that a certain Malachi, who had been on a blood hunt, was arrested by men on operatives. These men were on a dead or alive journey to find the man who has put the entire Ikono Local Government at a standstill.
Many businesses closed down due to Malachi’s operation in the area.
Reports have been confirmed by men of security operatives that the said man had taken about nine lives and destroyed several businesses.
It was stated that his main target throughout his operation had been Point of Sales (POS) operators who wait in streets to help people in areas where banks are not easily accessible. The young man took his threat to those areas, ceasing money amounting to millions of Naira from those operators.
Eye-witnesses reported and it was confirmed that when the suspect arrives the kiosk of a POS operator, he’d rob the owner, come out and kill anyone he meets outside the kiosk.
His last enormity, which sparked so much noise, was the murder of a Youth Service Corp member who was on a National assignment in Akwa Ibom State.
A female Corp member was robbed and shot dead by the said suspect, who is yet to be tried.
Malachi’s Early Life:
Malachi is said to have lived in a remote area, in Uyo Local Government, with a woman whom he proclaimed to be his wife.
He, according to findings, arrived the village with his purported wife, heavy with pregnancy.
A phone charging shop operator, name withheld, reported, “I have always been in a worry anytime I see Malachi who always comes here with not less than four torch lights to charge and one question has always been on my mind which until this arrest proves what he has been doing with them.”
The young man lamented that he always saw Malachi to be a calm guy and his charging of several torches made him think he could not hurt a fly.
Malachi’s child, dedicated in a church in the interior area of Uyo he lived, was not been seen anymore. It was later said that the child had died.
He was declared wanted after his murder of the Corp member and relocated to Akpabouyo Local Government area of Cross River State. The operation of the Nigerian Police force took it’s full force into that area.
Eyewitnesses reported that Malachi would always disappear after committing his crime and wondered how he was caught.
The Nigerian Police embarked on a house-to-house search until he was arrested and taken back to Itam Police Station in Uyo.
His arrest caused a wide celebration as people gathered round to see his arrest and confirm. He is currently awaiting trial.
