Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi scored the only goal in Everton’s 1-0 home victory over in-form Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Thursday.
The 25-year old attacker scored in the 99th minute to salvage the three points for the Toffees in what was a must-win game for the Merseysiders.
Everton are desperate to escape relegation and Iwobi’s goal has taken them three points off the drop zone with a better goal difference of -18.
They are currently 17th on the log with just one point behind Leeds United who are16th with a more disadvantaged goal difference of -34.
The former Arsenal man will be missing Nigeria’s crucial double-header World Cup qualifiers against Ghana due to the red card he received against Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 tie but his rise in form since he returned from the AFCON has been commendable.
