Media practitioners in Anambra State have been taken on a tour of the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, being constructed at Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area of the State recently.
At the tour, the governor of Anamabra State, Chief Willie Obiano, who was on ground, advised journalists to endeavour to uphold the standards of their profession which they acquired through their distinctive training.
He also urged them to pursue and present facts, especially as it pertained to the activities of his administration.
Following a report of Igboradio, the media practitioners were received and led on the airport tour by the state’s Commissioner for Works, Marcel Ofomata and his housing counterpart, Mike Okonkwo.
Some of the areas that were visited in the airport include the runway, tarmac, terminal building, fire centre, trauma centre, foyer, main auditorium and other places.
Later at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Obiano further maintained that media practitioners should always tell the truth in the discharge of their duties, even as he assured that he would complete the various projects which his administration embarked on before completing his term in office next year.
He also promised that the International Conference Centre under construction in Awka, the Anambra State capital, will be the venue for handover to the person who would succeed him as governor.
While mentioning some of the achievements of his administration, the governor expressed hope that Professor Chukwuma Soludo, a leading candidate in the November 6 election, and candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, will emerge victorious at the poll, and will continue from where he stopped.
Reacting, the Vice-Chairman of the NUJ in the Southeast, Sir Emma Ifesinachi; and the RATTAWU Chairman in Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mrs Maureen-Stone Enujioke lauded the Obiano for his strides in the airport and other works which his administration had embarked on, describing them as factors which have set the state apart.
Some other journalists who also spoke during the meeting with the governor, appreciated him and urged him to remain focused.
Apart from members of the fourth estate from the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, and members of Radio, Television and Theatre Workers Union, RATTAWU, others who were present during the tour include the state Commissioner of Police, CP Echeng Echeng.
