Army Headquarters reports that troops participating in Exercise Golden Dawn in the South East have neutralized one of the Biafran National Guard gunmen who attacked troops at Amaekpu, Ohafia Local Government Area, Abia State.
Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, stated this in an Abuja statement on Friday according to News Agency of Nigeria.
The perpetrators, who were well armed and arrived in numerous cars, began fire on the military, but were greeted with heavy resistance by the troops, according to Nwachukwu.
He further stated that one shooter was neutralized, while others abandoned their vehicles and fled in chaos with bullet wounds.
He also said that the troops also recovered a pump action gun, among others.
“While the criminals withdrew, having been overwhelmed, they were promptly intercepted at Eda by troops of Forward Operating Base Ohaozara in Ebonyi State.
“The troops recovered additional three vehicles and apprehended one of the gunmen,” he said
