Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has been ruled out for the rest of the season following a knee injury he sustained during his side’s UEFA Europa Conference league game against Rennes.
Ndidi was taken off in the second half of the match and has since been absent.
Coach Brendan Rogers confirmed on Thursday that the Nigerian will not be available for selection again for the rest of the season having undergone a knee surgery.
Rodgers said, “Wilfred Ndidi will be out for the season, it’s a shame for us but he’ll get ready for next season. It’s unfortunate. He’s been a brilliant player for me in my time here. He was badly injured and had to undergo a surgery. He should recover by June”.
“The players are starting to come back now which is great. Jonny Evans will be available, whether he plays the whole game, starts or comes off the bench we’ll see”.
Ndidi missed Nigeria’s crunch World Cup qualifiers against the Black Stars of Ghana. The later have qualified on away goal rule after two draws in Kumasi and Abuja.
He will not have the opportunity to play in the World Cup even if he shakes off his injury before the event kicks off.
