The Confederation of African Football (CAF), on Thursday, announced the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as the 12th best league in Africa.
The announcement was made on CAF official website.
The first 12 leagues have two representatives each in CAF competitions (CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup).
NPFL clubs have been struggling to play a major role in CAF competitions since Enyimba won the Champions League in 2004, following a 5-3 penalty won over Étoile du Sahel in Abuja.
Champions Akwa United and Rivers United lost out in the CAF Champions League this season following their early elimination in the preliminary round.
With no team to represent the country in CAF competition in the group phase, the country’s league have been struggling to produce a team to challenge the likes of Al Ahly and the rest, in order to be the best in Africa.
