The Nigeria Basketball Association (NBA) announced the approval of its withdrawal from all international competitions for the period of two years.
The announcement came after the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mr. Muhammadu Buhari, approved and confirmed it is necessary to do so.
The withdrawal is to make room for the Nigerian Basketball Association to have a proper and lasting solution to the pending crises experienced in the sector.
It is also to help the Government concentrate its efforts on revamping the sector from the grassroots, as well as domestic leagues which have become moribund.
During this period of withdrawal, an Interim Management Committee (IMC) will be set up to foresee the affairs of the Domestic Basketball League.
Players, officials, fans, and stakeholders of the sport are advised to stay calm as the action is to transition basketball for a long-term interest.
