A Nigerian costume inspired by a local masquerade was named the best costume at the recently concluded Miss Universe 2021 competition.
According to The PUNCH, Nigeria’s delegate, Maristela Okpala, wore the attire that won Best National Costume during the contest held in Eliat, Israel.
Kennedy Jhon Gasper, a Filipino designer, designed the award-winning costume.
The outfit, according to Maristela, was inspired by a female Southeastern masquerade known as Mmanwa and represents women’s fierce resolve to achieve enviable heights despite the challenges and obstacles.
The clothing was constructed with African beads, crafts, and stones, according to the model.
