The Super Eagles squad to represent Nigeria at the 2022 Nations cup slated for next month in Cameroon has been revealed by the Country’s interim boss.
And it appears the Country’s top flight league has been ignored following the exclusion of all the stars that showcased at the just concluded 2020/2021 season.
But an outstanding character who championed the race en rout to being crowned Champions has been included.
Former Akwa United defender now of Orlando Pirates in the South African first division, Olisah Ndah has been named in the final 28-man shortlist.
Ndah was one of the most consistent and outstanding performer that helped Akwa United win their maiden league title.
It is however sad to see goalkeeper Adewala Adeyinka failing to be added in the list as his deputy Jean Efala makes Cameroon squad.
Efala was only a deputy to Adeyinka and the later wrote his name in gold having kept several clean sheets with tremendous saves to establish himself as one of Akwa’s top stars of the season.
Another name worth mentioning as his name is lost in the list is Charles Atshemini who was the league’s joint-top scorer.
It is fair to say that the Super Eagles attack paraded at the tournament is of high quality but the inclusion of Charles would be a morale boasting for players in the NPFL.
Especially with Odiong Ighalo being recalled to the squad, the faith at rising stars seems forbidden with no hope for those in the local league.
The league is blessed with talents and stars with the likes of Enyimba, Nasarawa United, Kwara United, Kano Pillars and the Champions Akwa United capable of producing stars to be understudy for the current squad, ignoring them in totality is a sign of incompetency in our scouting system because no one can say there is no quality in the entire league as they prove their worth when ever they have the opportunity of leaving the shores of Nigeria.
