Zambian International Patson Daka has become Leiecester City’s highest goalscorer in European competition after netting his fifth goal of the season in the Europa league against Liegia Warsaw on Thursday night.
Born on December 9, 1998 in Kafue, Zambia. He left to Austria, Europe in 2017. He took Europe by storm in 2021 through his exploit in the UEFA Europa league.
Daka shaded off a defender to slot in with his left foot after a fine work from Harvey Barnes that drove the ball into the path of the African rising star.
The 23-year old justified manager Brendan Rogers’ decision to start him ahead of Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho.
Daka scored four goals against Spartak Moscow to help his side come from behind to gain all three points and recorded the opener against Legia Warsaw to move past Jamie Vardy in the all-time leading scorers chart in the European competition for Leicester City.
Daka Was A Star Even Before Arriving Europe
At 17 while playing in the Zambian league, Daka was handed his International debut after his promising display for his hometown club Kafue Celtic.
Patson Daka was part of the Zambian U20 side that won the African U20 Championship in 2017 before securing a loan move to Liefeing.
He scored six goals in 16 appearances for Zambian U20 side before being invited to the Senior National team.
How He Arrived And Takes Europe By Storm
Daka was first snapped up by Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg’s feeder team on loan in 2017.
The youngster proved unstoppable, giving the Liefering an easy decision to secure his services on a permanent basis.
Promoted to the senior side Red Bull Salzburg few months after his permanent arrival in 2017, Patson Daka made an instant impact for the Austrian side, scoring 54 goals in 82 appearances as a teenager.
His impact was not unnoticed when Leicester City came calling in the summer of 2021.
The young man has now scored five Europa league goals this season coupled with his Premier league goal against Manchester United in Leicester’s 4-1 humbling of the Red Devils.
Strength And Assets
Patson Daka has been blessed with pace, similar to his strike partner, Jamie Vardy, but the Zambian has proven to be more timely and accurate in most of his goals than the Englishman.
Daka’s ability to hold on to defenders, successful takeons and dribbles are added advantages to the Leicester man’s prowess.
With age on his side, Leicester City may be forced to face bidding wars from top European clubs for the 23-year old Zambian should he continue with his fine form.
