Shooting Stars and Akwa Ibom-born midfielder, Anietie Uko, has promised to one day represent his hometown club, Akwa United.
The midfielder started the Match day 22 fixture for Shooting Stars against Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Monday.
Speaking exclusively to Livefromnaija.com, Uko revealed the love he has for his boyhood club and how he was clouded with emotions when he played in Uyo on Monday against one of his favourite football clubs.
“It was a mixed feeling. Akwa United, aside being my home team, is a team I admired as an upcoming footballer and I loved being the ball boy in their matches just to get to watch them play. Playing against them is a step in the right direction and playing in front of my homies and family was great although I didn’t have the best of performance, but am grateful still.” Uko said.
When asked whether he dreams of one day playing for Akwa United, he added; “Definitely, every footballer will want to play for a team he admires, so I’m not an exception.”
Shooting Stars lost 2-1 to Akwa United at the Nest of Champions but Uko felt the team did well and deserved something better than loosing.
“Of course as a team we played well, but it’s one of those days you can’t explain.”
