Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Nigeria announced last month that there will be a reboot of the game show and just this week, it was revealed that Frank Edoho will be returning as the host of the show in March 2022. We compiled all the details you need to know about the game show and why it is highly anticipated.
The average Nigerian millennial grew up watching the game show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” in the 2000s to 2010s. This was because the show had was a thriller that left the contestant, audience and viewers at home clinging to their seats as Frank Edoho said, “Is that your final answer?”.
This show which is a spin-off of the British television game show of the same name which first aired in 1988 is the typical TV program Nigerian parents recommended to their children because they did learn a lot of current affairs and general knowledge from the multi-choice questions posed to the contestants who were playing to win millions of naira.
FRANK EDOHO
The show would not have that oomph if Frank Edoho was not its host. He embodied the personality and charisma of the guy we all wanted to be – the most intelligent guy in the room (yeah, we know the questions are scripted).
With his suave smile, clean, crisp suits and his signature, “My name is Frank Edoho and this is Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”, the audience knew they were in for an exhilarating watch.
Frank made the announcement on his verified Instagram page and Nigerian celebrities went wild in the comments section congratulating him and showing excitement for the reboot of the show.
REBOOTED TV SHOWS IN NIGERIA
A few days ago, the producers of the show announced that it would be making a comeback after it stopped airing in 2017 with Frank Edoho as its host and boy did fans go wild on Twitter. Just last year, the iconic reality TV show, “Gulder Ultimate Search” made a comeback after it was cancelled in 2016 and Nigerians were excited to have the show they grew up watching back on the air.
It is a sigh of relief that educating and inspiring shows are being reintroduced to our airwaves as opposed to the popular Big Brother Naija that is famous for showing explicit sensual content. Needless to say, parents who discourage their children from watching BBNaija will surely encourage them to watch Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
RULES OF THE GAME
It is not certain if the rules of the game will remain the same as it previously was but fans will be comfortable with the rules they have been used to as it will bring back the feeling of nostalgia.
However, if tweaks will be made, they should be minute so it does not change the signature feel of the show.
WWTBAM usually starts with a preliminary round called Fastest Fingers First which allows winners of the round to enter the main game.
In the main game, they are asked a total of 15 multi-choice questions with the difficulty level increasing with each level.
LIFELINES
The lifelines featured in the game show are one of the highlights fans will look forward to. Whether it is “Call a friend”, “Ask the audience” or “50-50”, they sparked hope in everyone watching that the contestants could actually cross the hurdle and win the money.
The organisers of the WWTBAM, announced that a new lifeline, “Ask the host” will be introduced in the reboot of the show.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Back in the 2000s to 2010s, social media was not as big as it is now and it is by far the easiest channel to get across to fans.
Frank Edoho has been active on social media and even has his accounts verified which means that the show will be brought closer to the fans and give it the publicity that it needs.
WWTBAM has its official social media pages which were opened in January 2022 and have been sharing fun content with their followers ranging from hot seat-like questions which followers answer in the comments sections, brain teasers and fast facts, teasers from the show and official announcements.
The media and marketing team brought their A-game and from the retweets on Twitter, fans are ready for the reboot of the show.
WWTBAM SET AND MUSIC
The show’s set had its own personality that was designed to make contestants uncomfortable so the show had the feel of a thriller rather than the fun, laidback nature of a traditional game show.
Fans of the show will want to see contestants in the “Hot Seat” with Frank Edoho with their computers facing them, the dramatic lighting, the tense soundtracks and music.
This is 2022 and it is expected that technology will play a huge role in the set design which will enhance and give the show a modern but iconic look.
