25-year-old Oluwatobiloba Ayomide “Tobi” Amusan on Sunday made history and brought smiles to the faces of Nigerians after breaking the 100mH (100 mitres Huddle) World record as she took 12.12 seconds to complete her 100mH jump race.
“Tobi Amusan ran 12.40 (+1.5 m/s) to break her own African 100m hurdles record and advances onto the semis. Fastest heat time ever.” World Athletics Championship twitted.

Tobi Amusan is the First Nigerian athlete EVER to win a World Title, blazing to a new World Record of 12.12s in the women’s 100mH and for the first time, the Nigerian anthem was played over the PA system at the World Athletics Championships.
The 25-year-old world champion couldn’t control her tears as a river drained down her cheeks as she sang her country’s anthem.
Tobi Amusan’s Profile
Oluwatobiloba Ayomide “Tobi” Amusan was born on April 23, 1997, in the ancient City of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State Nigeria.
She is a Nigerian track and field athlete who specialises in the 100 metres hurdles and also competes as a sprinter.
Tobi Amusan was the 2018 Commonwealth and 2018 African champion. She is also a two-time African Games champion in the event.
She won the Diamond League Trophy in Zurich in 2021 in the 100m hurdles and has just set another world record after winning the 2022 World Athletics Championships in the 100 metres hurdles, setting a new world record of 12.12 seconds in the semifinal, and a 12.06 in the final.

Total Prize Money Won in 2022
Amusan received a total of 170,000 Dollars at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon.
A hundred thousand US Dollars was awarded to her for breaking the World record and an additional 70 thousand US Dollars was given as the prize money for becoming a world athletic champion, bringing her record earning to 170,000US Dollars.
The Nigerian has now received a whopping combined sum of nearly 73 Million Naira as the record holder and champion of the 100mH at the World Athletic Championship.

Tobi Amusan completed a record-breaking 12.12 seconds jump race in the semifinal and 12.06 seconds in the finals to mark her name in the Nigeria hall of fame as far as Athletics is concerned.
