Victor Osimhen, a striker for Napoli and member of the Nigerian 28-man roster for AFCON has tested positive for coronavirus.
This was announced by his club on Thursday, ten days before the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The club said, “Napoli has announced that Victor Osimhen has tested positive for Covid-19 but is asymptomatic. Dr. Tartaro was due to perform a check-up on the player tomorrow.
“Consequently, the local authorities have ordered that Osimhen self-isolate and the check-up will be rescheduled after he has tested negative and his period of isolation ends.”
Nigeria has named Victor Osimhen, a Napoli striker who is still recovering from a serious injury to its 28-man roster for the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon next month.
After being ruled out for three months following surgery on face fractures suffered against Inter Milan in late November, Osimhen appeared destined to miss the competition, which is set to begin on January 9 in Cameroon.
He fractured his cheekbone and eye socket after colliding with Inter defender Milan Skriniar. He had titanium implants implanted in his cheekbone and eye socket.
The 22-year-old attacker had announced himself fit to fly to Cameroon, but his Italian club has requested that he stay back.
