The Nigeria U20 male team, Flying Eagles, on Sunday recorded a 2-0 victory over their Ghanaian counterpart in the opening fixture of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B tournament.
Ibrahim Muhammad and substitute, Ahmed Abdullahi, scored 2 goals for Nigeria to ensure victory at the Stade General Seyni Kountché in Niamey.
Nigeria is in group B, alongside Ghana and Burkina Faso, meaning they have set one foot into the semi-finals of the tournament.
The two finalists will represent the zone at the Africa U20 Nations Cup. The WAFU cup is only but a prep class for the main deal.
Ibrahim Muhammad struck as early as six minutes before Ahmed Abdullahi guaranteed the victory in the 78th minutes.
Nigeria will play against Burkina Faso on Wednesday in their last game of the group. This will ensure their qualification into the semis as they have already gathered three points, and a draw could be enough for the seven-times African Champions.
